Attleboro Dealer Charged in Fraud Scheme

dailynewsmissouriimage

The Swansea Police Department has charged Edward Cicciu, a 46-year-old Attleboro man and owner of Bristol County Auto Exchange, in connection with a fraud scheme at his used car business. Since May, approximately 25 individuals have reported being defrauded by the dealership. According to police, Cicciu obtained cars on loan from a local auction without receiving the titles, as he had not paid for the vehicles in full.

Despite this, he put the cars up for sale at his business. Cicciu allegedly completed sales transactions, accepted payments, attached fake or forged license plates, and promised buyers that titles and registrations would be mailed to them. However, police say Cicciu stopped responding to the victims and never paid the auction for the vehicles.

Dealer accused in fraudulent sales scheme

As a result, the purchasers never received the titles and were unable to register the cars. The auction company has initiated the process of repossessing the vehicles, as they remain the rightful owners.

Swansea Police Chief Mark Foley stated, “The Swansea Police Department takes any allegations of fraud very seriously. This has been an extensive investigation that underscores our commitment to protecting consumers from dishonest practices.”

The department urges anyone who believes they may have been affected by this fraud scheme to contact Officer Donald Dibiasio at 508-674-8464. Cicciu currently has multiple outstanding arrest warrants related to the fraud charges, and police are actively searching for him.

The investigation into the extent of the alleged fraud at Bristol County Auto Exchange is ongoing, as authorities work to identify and assist all potential victims. The Swansea Police Department remains committed to holding those responsible for fraudulent activities accountable and protecting the community from further harm.
