Sen. JD Vance criticized Gov. Tim Walz over the Democratic Party’s economic record during the CBS Vice Presidential Debate on October 1, 2024.
Trust me, I know what a good vice president looks like. Tonight’s debate made it clear my friend @Tim_Walz has what it takes.

Vance said Walz has to “play Whac-A-Mole” and “pretend that Donald Trump didn’t deliver rising take-home pay” and “lower inflation.”
The debate in New York City saw the candidates clash over various economic issues. Vance highlighted the struggles many Americans face due to current policies. He mentioned his personal background to draw attention to the cost of living.
It was a very Midwestern debate. And Vance won. https://t.co/E7gOMTZUXP via @politico

“I was raised by a woman who would sometimes go into medical debt so that she could put food on the table. I know what it’s like to not be able to afford the things that you need to afford.
Vance criticizes Walz on economy
We can do so much better. To all of you watching, we can get back to an America that’s affordable again. We just got to get back to commonsense economic principles,” Vance said.
The economy is a significant voter concern this election cycle, along with issues like immigration, abortion, and national security. The debate served as a platform for the vice presidential candidates to outline their visions and criticize their opponents’ records. Walz emphasized his commitment to keeping jobs in the U.S. and criticized the GOP for policies that he claims benefit billionaires.
Both candidates agreed on the importance of discussing health care, with Walz suggesting it as a topic as Vance concluded his remarks on the economy. This debate is likely to be the only vice presidential debate this election cycle, offering voters a glimpse into the economic policies of both major parties as they head to the polls.
